Hey, all. I just realized I hadn't introduced myself. I'm Tom, and I resently started shaving with a DE again. I had done so for a while in college,(late '70s) but didn't stick with it long enough to become accomplished at it. It's now time, if only during this one small daily ritual, to slow down and enjoy 10 minutes out of each day. I'm currently armed with my late father's razor, which I've come to learn is a '58 Gillette Super Speed. I also own a Hoffritz 4 piece travel razor in a little square leather case that I bought back in college. It's got a slant bar head, and is pretty aggressive, and of course back then I had no idea, so I used it ONCE and injured myself, and never used it again! I'm hanging on to that until I've had a little more practice. I've been enjoying my stay here at DFS, and I expect to be spending way too much time here in the future!

A kind gentleman in this forum recently sent me a sample of the The Body Shop's Maca Root shave cream, and I got a chance to take it for a spin this morning.

Wow!

First of all the scent is hard to define, but to my nose it is pleasant. It smells 'planty' ... a little flowery without being perfumish. However, the scent is not the cause of the 'Wow'.

The 'Wow' is for the lather. Quick forming, thick lather. We throw around the word 'explode' sometimes ... this products explodes when you hit it with a brush. I bowl lathered today and the lather was falling over the sides of the bowl in a few seconds.

It felt good on the face, and it provided all the protection I normally look for when I'm shaving. 2 hours later and my face is feeling soft and moist.

I will follow up again with this tomorrow morning.

Hi All,
I'm Greg from NJ. I got tired of overpriced, underperforming carts. and dug out my Slim Adjustable that I hadn't used since the first Trac ll came out. Went to my local Walgreens, picked up a VDH kit, a pack of Wilkinsons, and took off. The SA was in good shape, as it was in the original case. To shine it up I sprayed on some Scrubbing Bubbles, rinsed off, and I had a brand new razor. After a short time, I wanted to pretty up the SA, so I decided to have it chromed and the numbers touched up. To have something to use while baby was being taken care of, I picked up a Muhle 89R. I'm getting closer shaves than ever before, without irritation, and they last for 12 hours. Ain't never going back to carts.

I can't remember where I found this company, but I sure do like it. This opinion was meant to evaluate the 'low lather' shave cream, then I realized that I also used the 'shave oil' as a pre-shave.

To look for the ingredients here won't happen, but they advertise 'natural' and is sold at Whole Foods. I can tell you that FOs will certainly get the skin turning colors for me. Doesn't happen with this.

The first of their products I tried was the 'shave oil'. As a pre-shave it worked better than as an actual shave. As a matter of fact I use it all the time. More recently I've picked up the cream, and I need to say, although there isn't some foamy lather (it looks more like a cream), this is really good stuff. Very much a lubricant. It does take a little to rinse the razor under tap water. Certainly best used as a face latherer with a 2-band or boar brush.

Still going through my exploratory phase using an DE89 razor. Read a lot of great things about Feather blades, including a fair number of horror stories including blood-letting, etc. Finally worked up the courage to try some out. Gotta say that the results have been fairly mundane, at least with me. Have used Feathers with so-called low-end and high-end soaps and creams, with 4-passes. Can't really tell a lot of difference between them and other blades, such as Personna labs and Voskhods. Not sure the price is worth it. IMHO.

Hi,

I just recently joined DFS and used the activation link to activate my account - no problems there. I also posted to the Introductions thread - again, no problem.

The only issue I'm having is then I do my control panel (User CP) to try and update my profile I get an error message saying that I don't have permission, etc.

Can anyone provide some guidance?

Much thanks.
