Desert Vetiver v. (Saponificio Varesino) flowers, sagebrush, juniper

The vetiver plant thrives under waterlogged conditions. It grows great guns in drenched tropical soils. It really isn't designed for a desert environment. So why has Saponificio Varesino called this soap Desert Vetiver? My guess is that it's their euphemism for what this soap really smells like – sagebrush. The common western sagebrush (artemisia tridentata) grows abundantly in dry, desert-like conditions. It has a bitter green earthy scent that's sort of reminiscent of vetiver. I suppose it doesn't take a whole lot of mental leaping to see sagebrush as the vetiver of the desert. Though this soap doesn't get all the sticky, dirty nuances of the Great Basin sagebrush, it comes close, and it gives you a bouquet of flowers to make up for any shortcomings.
