James stated that he could engrave the base plate, but that the FONT used would be smaller.

It was, indeed, smaller. So, I sought an easy and economical solution at my local Jeweler for my other base plates. There was a $20 'set up charge' for the first base plate, but the end result was $76 USD (including tax) for FIVE base plates. I chose a slightly larger Font than the one used by James, but there were numerous options available, NOT limited by font size. Below is a photo of the base plate engraved by James (Right side, .86 OC) and the Left side Laser Engraved, local Jeweler (.86 DC). Also a photo from James of ONE of the early 2016 engraving options (Larger Font).

Damn at the array of gear.  Thanks for sharing.

My wife has a CriCut thingy that does clingy vinyl sheets.  I had her do some labels for my plates to play with.  It worked very well, except for my anal retentiveness...so, I just dedicate a handle to a head and drive on.

I do like the idea of engraving. I do the same thing as LOOT, though. Each head is paired with its own handle, so I always know which is which.

Someone suggested to me that you can buy different color washers to keep them identified

I've only got one out of 5 engraved. A .86 WR1 I purchased on ebay years ago. I don't know for sure that it was engraved by James, but I assume so.

I've thought about getting the others engraved by a local jeweler, but wanted to have James do it since it would be all 'original', at least to the artisan that made it.

I might reconsider, as it seems his willingness to do such extras is diminished.

This is great! Thank you! - Seems like the easiest way to figure out an ideal blade gap assuming you want a blade gap higher than you already have. Very happy to hear this.

BTW: The Jeweler only did ONE PASS with the Laser, it was enough. Also, I had a choice of two background or fill-in colors for the numbers, I chose the darker of the two.
There was also some 'over-spray' of the process, I just polished it out/away with some Flitz polish.

Not an expert on engraving so only go by what I see.
I've considered engraving before but pulled back because there's something about the font
(or engraving process) that doesn't look well matched with the logo font.

My .86 engraving seems to me to match well. Whether it does or not I wish James would engrave the gap by default.

Aside from telling similar models apart in my den, when buying second hand, it would insure the gap was what the seller said it was.

Not that I've ever had anyone intentionally deceive me, but when you get a Timeless, a Charcoal Goods, the engraved gap or level insures there are no mistakes.

Properly the caps should also be engraved to my thinking to pair properly with engraved based for those possessing multiple gaps of same design

One possible solution to  keeping the look clean is to get them in different finishes.
But then you can only have Five  Sad
